Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Read by Stephen Fry
Classic English Comedy Sci-Fi, but...
This is a classic English Sci-Fi one-act novel which has been translated into a number of different formats including BBC Radio 4's show, the BBC Tv set serial (both in the 1980s) and a 2005 characteristic movie.
The story itself is a quirky, detailed, observant and hilarious. Stephen Fry's narration is, as you would expect absolutely flawless. He brings the story, characters and idiosyncrasies of the book to life.
The only flaw in this telling of the story (and it's a flaw bigger than the Complaints Division of The Sirius Cybernetics Corporation) is that the volume equally been translated into American English. Why on earth (or anywhere in the Galaxy for that matter) would you accept a archetype past an English language author, have it narrated past a bully English histrion and translate it into American English?

Like Reading it Myself
Stephen Fry has read this the same mode I read the book many, many years ago. A existent pleasance, but too many Americanism that aren't in the original

Warning! American English Translation (YUK!)
What could have made this a four or 5-star listening experience for yous?
Highly annoyed. This quintessentially English novel has been translated into American English.
Arthur did not "become down to the cellar with a flashlight" it was a torch.
Veet Voojagig was not obsessed with missing ballpoints, it was biros.
Given that Douglas Adams was well known for his exacting employ of language, and sweating over every line to craft his story "just so", to modify a unmarried word is an act of vandalism.
Why in the proper name of the Great Green Arkleseizure, did they non record the few lines of text effected twice, in one case equally written, and again translated into American for the difficult of thinking. It would accept taken two minutes at about.
It rankles and Douglas Adams would non approve.
What did yous similar all-time nigh this story?
It's a classic.
Take you listened to any of Stephen Fry'south other performances? How does this ane compare?
It would accept been bang-up if he'd read the book as it was written.
What character would yous cutting from Hitchhiker'due south Guide to the Milky way?
Are yous insane? The whole point of my review was that the novel should not have been changed in the way it has been.
Any additional comments?
This should be stock-still.

Unmissable, quirky hazard. Perfectly performed.
Would y'all recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this audiobook. The story itself is quirky, comedic and unbelievable until you have actually read or listened to it. I don't call up you particularly have to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy Hitchhiker's - a good sense of sense of humor is the only pre-requisite! Hitchhikers does well as an audiobook and I could think of no amend performer than Stephen Fry to read it,
Who was your favorite character and why?
Marvin, the loveable depressed android, is my favorite character. Such an original and unique have on humanoid robots; uniquely and hilariously captured.
What about Stephen Fry's performance did you similar?
I love Whatsoever book read by Stephen Fry. His phonation is especially suited to the quirky (that give-and-take over again!) characters and events that take identify in Hitchhikers. He does non but read the words, he performs the story and does it beautifully whilst still staying true to the book.
Was there a moment in the book that peculiarly moved you?
An event concerning a whale is my favourite office of the story... only I don't desire to give too much abroad!

Brilliantly Off the wall book, excellently read
If you lot similar your sense of humour surreal, mad, and unobviously obvious, and so you volition similar this book. This version is read by Stephen Fry, who spent a lot of time with Adams sharing their Apple tree Geekery before the word 'Fanboy' had ever been applied to Apple Disciples. I ever prefer actors reading books equally they always seem to give it a scrap more gusto, and this certainly applies to Stephen Fry hither. Overall a very good book read very well. Although I did experience it was a flake short. Merely accept to find the Eating place At The End Of The Universe at present, I guess.

A vivid book, brilliantly read!
When I saw Stephen Fry had narrated this, I had to listen to it; adn I was not dissappointed!
Stephen reads Adams's dry, sarcastic sense of humour exactly and so; with his own dry & sarcastic wit.
He does what the picture show couldn't; actually make the volume sound plausible (no affair how far fetched & bizarre information technology really is).
Absolutely recommended listening!

A classic from a comic genius, read wonderfully
Where does Hitchhiker's Guide to the Milky way rank amid all the audiobooks yous've listened to so far?
Pretty loftier upwards. I had read the book and seen the BBC series beforehand and then knew the story (and so far) so there was not the novelty factor of other great reads. It was slap-up to listen to.
Who was your favorite grapheme and why?
Arthur Paring. A human more out of his depth than any other homo has always been out of his depth before, and unlikely to be outdone every bit his planet has been destroyed and he is the last man live, in or out of his depth.
Was this a book you lot wanted to heed to all in one sitting?
Aye
Any additional comments?
A great book that everyone should read before the end of the world.

Stephen Fry is so, so good
This is but so damn British. I'yard afraid my enjoyment for this book was enhanced a little too much by cornball memories of offbeat britcoms similar Blackadder and (especially) Red Dwarf.
Speaking of influences I can't assistance but wonder if—the very American—Futurama was partly inspired by Hitchhikers? Did anyone else observe the striking resemblance between Zapp Brannigan and Zaphod Beeblebrox? I had an epitome of Zapp in my mind every fourth dimension Zaphod appeared on the folio.
But back to United kingdom… when I learned the critical component of the Infinite Improbability Drive was a cup of hot tea… let's just say information technology warmed my heart and provoked a spontaneous, gentle grinning.
Apart from being terribly British, it's besides dreadfully agreeable and piece of cake-to-read. I loved it.
As for Stephen Fry's narration of this audio-version --- *sigh* --- the human is a genius and has remained consistently on my list of "Fantasy Dinner Party Invitees" for the concluding 15 years so—obviously I would like to hack into the Audible website and somehow assign a 6th star in the category of "performance".

Hitchhiker never fails to entertain
Would you lot recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I'm not the sort of person who recommends things to my friends - they're just so finicky. However, should I observe out that a friend is a Hitchhiker'south fan AND a Stephen Fry fan AND they ask me if it was whatever skilful I'd tell them, "Yes, aye and yes!"
The functioning of this story that I know and so well brought me new laughs and enjoyment.
What a shame the story reminded me of how old I am by reminding me of how old it is.

always loved Douglas Adams equally a immature Developed and was significant to re read the trilogy (in iv parts of course) in any instance.
this was well worth the buy every bit Stephen Fry actually does an outstanding functioning, only bringing the book to life. This must be the all-time version of this work in my opinion, much netter than reading the volume myself or watching the movie.

E'er a winner
I read this book when I was 20. Over a decade later on, I idea it was about fourth dimension to re-read it. So, with a puzzle in front of me, I began listening to this funny story in one case once again. I just did it to experience good, to express joy, and to reminisce.

A adept introduction
Really enjoyed the book - have others in the series to read - looking forward to going on the journey
Hilarious
I loved this book - this is the equivalent to a hot cup of tea, awesome 👌
Feeling at one with the origins of nerdy tropes
Information technology's great to finally hear the sources of so many legendary nerdy tropes such as 42. Douglas Adams has such a wonderful and non-conventional method of storytelling. That sees the narrative hop-skip and jumping all over spacetime in a quest for imaginative narrative glee.
There'south a certain kid-similar wonder that comes with experiencing a story like this, total of incomprehensible things.
Fantastically delivered by Mr Fry, who never fails at audible engagement.
